MedQuist Teams Up With Intel to Move Medical Transcription Services Onto the Internet
Online Medical Transcription Services to Help
Streamline Practices and Improve Patient Care
MedQuist (Nasdaq: MEDQ) today announced that it is teaming with Intel to develop and deploy new Internet technologies for medical transcription that will enhance its service offerings to physicians and hospitals.
MedQuist, the medical transcription industry leader, plans to provide its customers with the ability to store and retrieve patient charts over secure Internet connections. MedQuist will accept the AMA physician credential, and Intel(a) Internet Authentication Services will validate credentials before MedQuist grants access to patient medical information.
MedQuist's new online medical transcription services will benefit health care providers and their patients. Physicians will have more expedient access to the charts they need to make sound clinical decisions at the point of care. Physicians can more easily share charts with authorized third parties such as specialists to promote better record keeping and overall management of patient care. The new services will also streamline practice workflow, helping to reduce the time and money spent managing paper-based records, and avoiding misfiling and loss.
"Our new Internet platform will provide the industry with faster turnaround and better service," said David Cohen, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MedQuist. "We are excited about offering this new capability to physicians and hospitals, allowing them to save money while improving patient care and maintaining confidentiality. The solution we are deploying with Intel is based on state-of-the-art server and security technology that will finally begin to make paper records a thing of the past. I am extremely excited to be teaming up with Intel on this project."
"Intel believes that automating record transcription is one of the best ways to get hospitals and physicians onto the Internet," said Steven McGeady, vice president of Intel's New Business Group and director of the Internet Health Initiative. "These new capabilities not only save a physician`s time, but will enable many new applications that will improve health care and save money. We are excited about working with MedQuist to bring Internet technology to bear on the $6 billion medical transcription industry in support of authorized providers who need the right data at the right time to make the right decisions for their patients."
